Richard H. Brown is a musicologist based in Los Angeles. He received his PhD in historical musicology at the University of Southern California, and has lectured at USC, Chapman University, Occidental College, California State University, Northridge, San Diego State University, CSU Long Beach, and Oregon State University Online. 

Dr. Brown's research interests include avant-garde music and film, particularly the work of composer John Cage. He has published articles on film music, the music industry, and copyright. His forthcoming book, Through The Listening Glass: John Cage and Avant-Garde Cinema, will be published by Oxford university Press (2017).
